Dragonflies and Damselflies
Last Updated on 28 September 2025
Dragonflies and damselflies—members of the Odonata order—are ancient creatures that have been around since the dinosaurs hundreds of millions of years ago, making them some of the oldest winged residents of our planet.
These zippy little aviators are easy to overlook while you’re stomping down the trails, but pause for a moment, and you’ll spot them darting, hovering, and dazzling with their swift, graceful flights. With their jewel-toned wings and aerial acrobatics, they add a touch of magic to ponds, streams, and gardens alike.
Our dream? To track down all 130 species of dragonflies and damselflies that call Singapore home. Here are a few of these remarkable little fliers we’ve had the pleasure of stalking—uh, respectfully observing—so far.
